The single most useful thing you can do is clear flat surfaces: counters, dining tables, nightstands and bathroom vanities. Every item that has to be lifted, cleaned around and replaced is time not spent on the room itself.
A short preparation list
- Put away laundry, toys, paperwork and dishes where possible
- Secure pets in a safe room or crate if they are nervous around strangers or equipment
- Confirm access — key, code, or someone at home
- Leave a note about any fragile or off-limits items
